House of Rainbow Bridges Hospice Orphanage for HIV+/AIDS (HRB)In October 2003, Happy Tree founder Dr. Jerry Wong was allowed to use a premises in a military hospital, with support from the Cambodian army, to open a facility to support orphans with HIV/AIDS. The House of Rainbow Bridges was officially in use after extensive renovation on 29th December 2004.(Picture 1)
The concept of HRB is one that hopes to support and accompany AIDS affected orphans on their final journey towards heaven with joy and dignity. Currently, there are 90 orphans living at HRB. All of them have contracted HIV through their infected mothers. These orphans have been sent to HRB because both their parents have passed away, or that their relatives could not afford their upkeep, or have been abandoned by their parents at government-run hospitals.
In 2005 HRB received 58 oprhans, where 27 of them passed away peacefully. 2006 saw the number of orphans grow to 75, and with punctual administration of medicine and an incredible effort on behalf of the workers providing love and plenty of care, only 3 of them passed away the following year. From 2007 to 2009 the HRB has seen a death rate of 0.
Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni has commended the work of HRB and Dr. Jerry Wong, who received a prize for national development in 2005.(Picture 2) In September 2007, 80 HRB oprhans and 40 HRB workers were invited into the royal palace, where they were personally received by the King.(Picture 3)
Rainbow Village
The health condition of the AIDS orphans has become stable under the good care in HRB. The death rate is 0 from June in 2007 to 2009. Therefore, Happy Tree plans to create a brand-new home for them- Rainbow Village. Besides AIDS orphans, we also plan to adopt disabled orphans.(Picture 4)
